In Hainan, you can eat fresh fruit all year round, as different fruit ripens in different seasons. Right now, it's mango time!
The best place to get your mango fix is Changjiang (昌江), a beautiful place in the northwest of Hainan province. For the next month or two, you can go right into the mango orchards and pick a huge, juicy mango right off the tree. Go ahead, take a huge bite. Don't worry about that mango juice running down your face! Ok, yeah, it's a little bit sticky. But it tastes like heaven!
Some of the local mango orchards feature trees that are up to one hundred years old, and still producing fruit! That's Hainan quality, right there. You can not only pick your own fruit in Changjiang, but also meet local Mango Experts, learn about the mango processing procedure, see the Mango King crowned, and see a mango art and photography exhibition. It will be an adventure. A delicious, delicious mango adventure.
While you are in town, why not visit some of the local attractions?
Picturesque Chess Bay (棋子) is covered in multicolored pebbles, which look just like Chinese chess pieces.
The Nanyao River (南尧河) is surrounded by karst rocks, each one a different unexpected shape.
The Bawangling Gibbon Nature Conservation Area (坝王岭长臂猿保护) is home to the endangered Hainan Gibbon, which lives nowhere else on earth.
What are you waiting for? Take a big bite of Changjiang!
